Coauthor is committed to protecting the privacy of children online.
This COPPA Notice explains how we collect, use, and protect personal information from children under 13 years old, in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
1. Parent Consent Is Required
A parent or legal guardian must:
- Create the main account
- Provide consent for their child to participate
- Link a valid parent email
- Oversee ongoing activity
Children cannot create accounts independently.
2. Information We Collect From Children
We only collect information necessary for participation:
- First and last name or pen name
- Age range or grade level
- Story content created on Coauthor
- Comments or feedback written within challenges
We do not collect:
- Home address
- Phone numbers
- School names
- Exact location data
- Photos of the child
- Contact information
We do not allow children to share personal information.
3. How We Use Children's Information
We use a child's information to:
- Support writing challenges
- Display stories and feedback within the community
- Moderate content for safety
- Provide age-appropriate experiences
- Improve platform features
We never display personal information about a child.
4. Parental Controls & Rights
Parents may:
- Review the child's information
- Request deletion of the child's account
- Request correction of any content
- Withdraw consent at any time
- Request an activity report

5. Sharing of Children's Information
We do not sell or share children's data for advertising.
Information may be shared only with:
- Moderators for safety
- Service providers performing essential tasks (hosting, moderation tools)
- Legal authorities when required for safety or compliance
All partners must comply with strict confidentiality terms.

Coauthor uses:
- Encrypted data storage
- Child-safe authentication
- Human moderation
- No private messaging
- Strict community guidelines
We take all reasonable measures to prevent unauthorized access.
